Minas Morgul

Alveus Lacuna This album is seminal and special. While not as refined as later works, this is the first album with the true Summoning sound. It’s rough around the edges, yet completely original for the time, and therein lies the magic of this offering. Check out Dagor Bragollach for something nobody else, aside from maybe Limbonic Art, was doing back in 1995. Favorite track: Dagor Bragollach.

9RnK7 The album that started me on my black metal journey at a young age. I had never heard any black metal before and the atmosphere of this album was something I had always loved in movies/books but had never heard in music. All these years later Minas Morgul still moves me as much as it did back then. The raw mastering combined with the synths and rhythms make a sound that will always be part of my soul. Favorite track: Ungolianth.

Wound of Briccius What else can be said about this album? Minas Morgul is an absolute gem in not only the BM scene, but also the Dungeon Synth scene. This was the album that really defined Summoning, and created their unique sound. Minas Morgul is an album that every BM fan must have.

beer_metal_dbeat-666 This album is important, it lays the ground work for what became Tolkien Metal or Black Metal with Lord of the Rings lore/theme.

about

2nd Album. Black Metal Classic

By fans often called the "real" debut-album by austrian legends Summoning.

Back then this album was a surprise for every listener, who expected the same approach like on "Lugburz".
Compared to the raw nordic black metal the band is celebrating there, it is a totally new band presented on "Minas Morgul".
The two main things that yet remained the same are the Lyrics based on writings by J. R. R. Tolkien and Silenius' extreme black metal shrieking.

This album will enchant you and take you into the deepest dungeons of Minas Morgul, where all hope is lost.

The front illustration of the album was taken from Mark Harrison's cover painting for Roger Taylor's The Call of the Sword (1988) novel.
